| Effective report writing is an art. It is recognizing the information required and the ability of knowing where to get the data. Report writing is aimed at communicating what has transpired in maintenance. Reports are only as good as the data behind it. |

| There are a variety of software tools aimed at generating effective reports such as Crystal, Cognos, Oracle Discoverer and Report Writer. It is rare to find a combination of skill sets that has the knowledge base of the CMMS, maintenance and report writing tools. In order to be effective, it is this very combination that is required when constructing those reports. |

| The battle begins with first determining what is to be measured. The next step is to collect the data required to take the measurements. It is then taking the data and manipulating it into a report that communicates clearly the information such that effective decisions can be made. |
